The Good DeathThat's the meaning of the word Euthanasia, from the Greek words Eu, "good" and Thanatos "death", but I guess that you already knew that. Even though this has been a very debated topic over these past years, it seems that the spiritual side of it has been overlooked by many. To begin with, perhaps we need to be sure first what's the real meaning of a human life, because when you put it in a spiritual perspective, the perception of it could vary a great deal from the usual point of view that most people in the world share. I mean, when asked about which's their greatest valuable asset, almost everybody would answer: "My life"... But there is a value even more precious than human life itself that many just don't realize: the spirit within us. That is the reason behind these enlightening paragraphs found in the divine teachings of this Era:
"The existence of a man on Earth is only an instant in eternity, a breath of life which animates the human being for a time, and later it separates in order to animate a new body." "As the palpitations of your heart pass, in the same way does the life of men pass into infinity." "The body could live without a spirit, animated only by the material life, but it would not be human." "When I mark the termination of your brethren's life, do not ask that I lengthen their existence." "Do not try to reject death when, according to My will, it approaches you; neither seek the man of science to perform the miracle of opposing My plans by prolonging your existence, for you will both weep bitterly over this fault. Prepare yourselves during this life, and you will have no reason to fear your entry into the hereafter."
The astonishing fact here, is that these paragraphs were delivered almost one hundred years ago, when the possibilites of extending human life thru artificial means belonged to the realm of science fiction. When we meditate about these concepts, we may see clearly that the only way to have a "good death" is by living a good life, an elevated one. When we do, death becomes as natural as birth was in the first place.
