The Forms of PrayerLet's start by reviewing a few things that probably we haven't seen in its proper perspective just yet. We, human beings, pray for different and various reasons; starting with the little ones praying to the Lord for the toys they long for, to the elder ones asking for health and strenght for their golden years, passing through the most diverse necessities that men and women of all sorts could have, be it in the spiritual order as well as in the emotional and the material. And every reason for praying has a form, be it to ask something for ourselves or for our fellow men, or be it to worship the Father or become enraptured in His magnificence. The Lord has explained to us that, basically, there are four forms of prayer, and each one of them follows a purpose, an intention of ours:
"The prayer is petition, intercession,
adoration and contemplation."
"I truly say to you that the first form,
petition, consists in that man pleads to see
his wishes granted, satisfied his yearnings
and all that which he believes to be more
healthier and important for his life; and I
say to you, my children, that the Father
listens to the petitions of all, and gives
each and every one what he needs the most, as
long as it is for his own true good."
"The second form of prayer, intercession,
emanates from the love for your fellow man,
that love that I taught to you when I, as a
Master, came to this world. Plead for your
brothers, both the nearest and the farthest
ones, for those whom in the nations are
suffering the consequences of war, of pest,
of sickness and hunger, for those that are
suffering the tyranny of the temporary rulers
of this world. Prepare, o my children, and
plead for your brothers, but also where at
this intercession you should know how to ask,
since the spirit is more important than the
matter."
"If you have a brother, your parents or your
sons which are sick, plead for them, but do
not insist for them to be kept in this life,
if this is not what the spirit needs. Plead
instead for their spirit to be free, for them
to be purified in their sufferings, for pain
to avail them with the spiritual elevation.
Because of this, the Divine Master has taught
you since the First Era to say: -Father, your
will be done-. Because it is the Father the
one which knows best what the spirit truly
needs, better than any of His children".
"The third form of prayer, the adoration of
the Divine Spirit, signifies the adoration of
all which is perfect, since through this form
of prayer you are able to unite with
perfection, with that love that embraces the
whole Universe. In the adoration you can find
the perfect state which every one of you
shall reach, and by the adoration your will
arrive to the fourth form of prayer:
Contemplation."
"Contemplation, when united with the
adoration, is the one that leads you to the
unification with the Divine Spirit, to the
source of eternal life, to the source that
gives you strenght day by day, so you can
reach the Kingdom of the Father".
"You must practice every day all these forms
of prayer, starting with petition, all
through contemplation. This is what will give
strenght to the spirit, and to the matter
besides".
The Third Testament
There is an old saying: practice makes perfect; and which one
of us does not long to reach that perfection at prayer,
perfection at loving?
